I have nothing but respect for anyone who made it through wartime and was able to get back home. If you ask me, anyone who volunteered to go and fight has balls as big as church bells.
My step-father (ret. Army) was shot in the neck during the Korean conflict. Made it home, but was partially paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life.
My grandfather (ret. Navy) made it home, but would not speak a word about what he saw/did during WWII.
