Had an issue pop up with the Chevelle and thought I would pass this along.......LOL.....It never ends.........On last years Good-Guys Road tour every so often when starting the car ..........there would be no response when the key was turned to the start position......hit it 4 or 5 times and it would start and run fine, other times it would crank over without starting, then after a couple of minutes it would start..........Hummmm!!!........Now, I have an Alarm system in the car that is set to disable the starter circuit with relays when the Alarm is on...........Hummmm!!!!.........So......over the Winter the car sat in the garage with a Trickle Charger on it, and recently I started driving it again........started and ran perfect went out for a drive and after about 45 minutes I was just pulling into the driveway and the car shut off..........Hummmm!!!!.....When trying to start it, again ....the same symptoms.........Pushed it in the garage and put the Battery charger on it and after charging, it would start and run perfect........Hummm!!!.......When driving it, the Voltmeter was showing charge, but not a high charge......(13 volts).....I know the ECM is set to not function in a low voltage situation........maybe that's why it would spin over and not start........Hummm!!!.....But.....I didn't understand why the Voltmeter was showing charge and yet the Battery would go dead....The car should still run even without the Battery.........Something Goofy going on here !!!!............I go and buy a new Battery and put it in...........Go out for a drive......Voltmeter is around 13 Volts and after 45 minutes of driving the car shuts off...........Open the Hood and I smell something ..........Hummm!!!!........Car would crank over but not start.......I sat there for a while,(had no choice as I was about a mile from the house)........After 10 minutes the car started and I made it to a local repair shop..........New Battery......Voltmeter showed charging.......and it quits!!!............Darn this car stuff is Hard !!!!!!!..........Told the guys at the repair shop not to call until they had it fixed........I explained the Starter inhibit built into the alarm system and told them if they thought that was an issue to remove the system..............So.....I get a ride home and 10 minutes later they call and said the car was fixed ................Typical me.....Making things a lot more complicated and involved than need be...........Alternator feed wire nut to the Battery loosened up.........the smell I smelled was the melting of the plastic conduit around the wire and nut where the resistance from the loose connection made a lot of heat.......Duhhhhh!!!.........The loose connection was enough to feed the Voltmeter , but not enough to send the Amps to the Battery for recharging........Hence the Battery going dead ...........
