The 'hanging part' is that you hung the pump head on just the bottom hook, with it close to falling off, but the switch was still left on blocking the top slot which helped secure the whole thing. People driving up would not notice. You saved those pumps with a few bucks on them for the big cars or big company trucks (definitely not the next car, or yes you would get fired).
