Rick, it's interesting that the 70 assembly manual has the components of that wheel illustrated, whereas the 69 manual does not.

Phil, I would certainly appreciate any further insight you could provide. I am thinking that my convertible has pan head Phillips screws to retain them, but it's been almost 15 years since I've had them off the car, so I can't be certain about that, or if there was any type of washer used. And since you mentioned it, I do recall hearing the wooden handle screwdriver story before, although I have certainly never seen or heard of one with a car.

Mark, I suppose it's certainly possible that different assembly plants used different type fasteners, or that there was a running change of type during the production year.
