Re: Barrett Jackson - Opinions?
I sorta think this is more of "THE REAL" market numbers and the inflated ones that we have grown to accept? I personally never have thought ANY of the SB Trans Am cars are worth anything near what people are asking! It's just the follow the leader type of thing. Or maybe one of the older guys HAD one when they were new, and now has the $$$ where is gets what he wants due solely to sentimental value.
One thing NO ONE has seem to touch on is, YES BJ is the BIG SHOW, BUT also there Scottsdale show IS THERE BIG SHOW??? So the FLA show the prices should be down another 15 to 20% from this one.
I have been to BJ back in 2011 for a couple days, and new been to R&S so I can't comment. Need to see what the prices at some of the other major shows do to set prices? I also wonder if the reason the prices are dropping is the high dollar, BIG money collectors like Pratt and Thomas are dumping their collections and other big dollar guys might be doing the same, or NOT buying?? Again the "monkey-see, monkey-do" herd mentality? It's no longer fun or viable and the guys that WOULD overspend and set the benchmarks are not? This means the hobby might be reverting back to the upper-middle class cars guys to set more realistic prices?
The Thomas 67 SS427 convert and Tom "Wilma's boys" Nova @ 67K, the $66K LS-6 Chevelle might just be the new benchmarks for for REAL value as that's what society is saying these are worth? The demographic is changing. The "younger" buyers, LIKE MYSELF who is only 50 yrs old, are not as emotional towards them as the older guys that might have had one, or seen them new and always wanted one.
I know there are alot of people that do not like what I'm saying, SORRY. But I DO NOT feel, the "plain-Jane" COPO cars or the Boss 302, '69 Z28 or the Mopar 340 ^pack cars are worth any where near what people WERE getting for them.
Then you can get into the whole NUMBERS MATCHING or BORN WITH debacle and is it REALLY BORN WITH or restamped?????
