That part of the story really hit home. That's how I spent my childhood growing up in the 1980s too!
From about 7-8 years old, I was out there every weekend with my Dad working on his '40 Chevy Street Rod, then his '63 Impala, and also my Mom's daily driven '68 Chevelle (later replaced by a '69 Chevelle - the car I used to learn how to drive and take my license test at age 16).
Got my first car (1965 Nova) in 1986 at age 14, two years before I got my license. Though it's changed a lot in 31 years, I'm still driving it!
