It's been a while since I wrote about this car. Much of what has been posted is since I installed the 422 SBC..............and then I started to chase the car.
If I have driven the car 1000 miles since, that would be about it. Frankly, the car is stupid fast.........fastest car I have ever owned and just about the fastest I have ever driven. Its a great car...............for about 20 minutes. I guess I am getting older and expect a little more from my cars to enjoy them.
So, it's time to revisit the car................again. I'm going to keep the 422, but change the cam. I may go back to a solid flat tappet in lieu of the solid roller. I'm sick of bronze distributor gears plus certainly, there are enough high quality oils on the market to satisfy any lubrication requirements.
We will see what else has to change. Hopefully, I am able to reuse much of what I had (carb, intake, heads, etc.)
I have a few primary goals of what I would like to achieve with Nova 2.0
1. Still pump gas
2. 500hp by 6000 rpm
3. 500 ft. lb. of torque (or more) with a torque peak around 4000 rpm. I would like to see 400 ft. lb. @ 3000 rpm.
4. Any sort of cam burble to be gone by 2000 rpm. I may go back to a 5 speed transmission. I live in the countryside and miss the overdrive. We will have to see there. The M22W and ram rod is a hoot to beat around.
5. If I do keep the M22W and the ram rod, I am going to have to section out the bench seat. The Mrs. would really like to drive the car again, and cannot due to how far back the seat is.
6. If I ever do get this to the track, I'd like to see a low 12 second pass if not high 11.
I like the idea of this car being a bit old school (carbureted SBC). I did consider an LS engine, but I already have a car like that.
Anyways, I started taking it apart today. I have a list of small items I am going to address while the car is apart.
There is some real estate that would have to come out of the seat to better accommodate the shifter
