Default Re: 1966 Corvair V8 prototype

My uncle worked at Don Essen Chevrolet in Balwin Mo..and in 68 he and a manager built a 66 Covair with a corvette new CE L79 with all GM parts..i remember a muncie 3 speed input was talked about and and adapter kit for the bell housing like a Hurst piece..or maybe an early crown piece if i have the story straight..it was a maroon Corsa..and mid engine

i havent even thought about the car since the 80s prob, but Ive always been interested in building one..i remember a few thing he told me but time has made it blurry...i did see a few black and white Polaroids...it was a theft and recovery that was stripped of its engine and had some interior pieces missing..they got it for dirt cheap...

He said it was a monster to drive..handled well..was scarey fast and wouldnt stop..said it handled better than anything he ever drove...he said the built an engine cover out of cut up suit cases..and if you power shifted it your elbow would be in the water pump pulley...

it would explode the trans on a clutch dump...lots of good stories..

Id really like to see pics etc..always interested in any V8 Vair...
