I think it was something to do with the clip at the top of the strap. This would be the pin the brown wire connects to.
It wasnt making a good connection is my suspicion. I was getting an open reading and my gauge was pegged over full.
If you take the brown wire thats connected to the sender and ground it out, the gauge will go to empty. Then you know its not your gauge.
