Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Nick and I had a fun transmission chat today:-)
He said the tail stock is ok to use as is but he will look for a replacement. (I don't know who did the welding so probably best to go for a better piece)
Nick will price a new gear set minus the reverse gear as he said it is mint, he will also look for just the worn gears and we will see what is best. (he just used a new set of gears and they are impressive:-)
Nick will look for replacement shifter "thingys" so the M20 has all the same stuff as my M22.
I sent a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with the transmission but it is for a console car....maybe the offset piece which attaches to the handle can be replaced? Need to modify it a little to suit the original H shifter handle:-)
Nick noticed the transmission had been apart and not used as it wouldn't have worked anyways:-) the needle bearings were not in the right place. (I have to figure out where they were but he explained they were inside the race and they should be outside or visa versa)
Nick explained a few improvements he does to his Muncies from his years of drag racing his Yenko Chevelle:-) I think he said a 2 to 7 ratio of banana peels to saw dust added to the case reduces noise:-) Joke!!!!
I have only some Google and YouTube transmission experience so I am very happy Nick has offered to head up this portion of the restoration:-) I really respect experience!!!
I want to get my M22 freshened to see if any surprises are lurking......but have to put the rock crusher aside:-(
Ryan
