What clutch?
What gear ratio?
Vehicle weight?
M20, 21 or 22?
All factory gears, case, etc, or upgraded aftermarket parts?
Tires?
Chassis set-up?
How much of the gearbox fatigue life has been "used up"?
How hard is the launch?
Does it wheelhop?
etc, etc, etc....
The simple answer is to go to the track and find out. If it breaks, fix it.
</div></div>Here are some pics of my m21 input shaft as you can see the splines are bent and close to breakage.Dint even make to the track.By the way it was a less than 300.dollar hays clutch and a stock balanced flywheel with a 3-73 rear. This was in a 70 nova with a small block.Dint damage the tranny made alittle metalic noise. when I took it apart noticed 3and4 gear knocked the snap ring off the main shaft due to the sudden load.Thats why i started this thread. Was just looking for simple input from the more experienced and the people that bought these cars new.Good thing i didnt drive to the track because the hook would have cost me 5or6 hundred dollars for transportation back home. Thanks marc.
