Paul - you've got two vents (oil fill tube and draft tube). Lots of cars built that way before 1963, so it obviously works. However a PCV with a breather on the other cover keeps the oil cleaner, reduces moisture build-up in the crankcase, etc, etc. Not a big deal for a race engine, but I feel better having one since my car sees street miles and it really doesn't cost anything to run one. I'll take function over looks. Just my opinion though, as not everyone has the same priorities.
I think Tom has a '68-up block, so there would be no provision for a draft tube or breather at the rear, like '67 and older engines.
