Default Re: The Flying Dutchman 2014 New Thread!

Sorry guys, took it apart and sold off the top end, cam and some other parts. Still have shortblock and going into it sometime this year. Got a set of stock 840's and 163 intake for it, just for the OEM look.

Funny, I did end up putting a 10 point cage in the car, sold off the M-21 for a 'glide as I KNEW I would end up breaking that trans, and bought the "POLISHED SNEAKERS 427"! That artical is gone now, but YEARS ago, Patrick Budd built 2 low-buck BBc's. 1 was a .030 over 427 (MINE) for Lee Martin, and a .030 454 cor another guy. Basic low buck stuff for a total of 5 GRAND in each. Basically there OEM shortblocks with TRW pistons, OEM OVAL port heads, solid lifter cam and aftermarket intake. My 427 was set up to run Nitrous and had 12.8-1 compression, cam was right around 600 lift, just plain old solids.

Lee ran this motor, 3500 converter, 4.10 rear, DOT tire and 3500+ lbs Buick regal. FIRST time at the track this car went 10.90's. Out-of-the-box- Holley 850 and HEI distributor. Shifted at 6500.

I PUT this 427 in my '69 Nova. REWORK Holley 800 form my other motor, 2 speed with 5200 converter, 9" SLICK and 4.56's. This ALSO ran 10.40's. Patrick told me that the "215" heads were about a 60% effort due to Lee's limited knowledge and the car being set up for 250 hit of Nitrous. I think if we spent some time and played with it, I think I could have gotten LOW 10.20's maybe even a 10.TEEN in the right conditions. Reworking the heads, changing the cam, converter and gears, I bet there was a 9 in that little 433.

This too is going back together this summer, I sold off some of the stuff (block and some other odds n ends) to a "Nostalgia" class racer and that stuff went over to run LaMans in France VINTAGE series.

Side note: The 454 with "781" heads, N/A cam, 4.10's and 3500 converter ran 10.30's shifting at 6500. BOTH ran thru mufflers and DOT tire and both over 3500 lbs. The owner of the 4454 DID change to alum head and matching intake, AND SLOWED DOWN!!!!
