Well, I should have said old school lacquer repaints when there is no oven. The factory lacquer jobs could get wax much sooner, as they were baked, which accelerated curing. Most hobbyists don't have that luxury. Waxing lacquer too soon is not just wives tale. May be lots of exaggeration, and differences of opinion, but still some truth.
Maybe you did wax them. At the dealership where I worked in the 70's it was polish only; big squirt bottle and a buffer. Probably would have been safe to wax an oven cured paint job at the dealership.
