I’m looking for some opinions……

There is one interesting unknown about this car that Don pointed out to me. It had a hood tach on it at one time. Not a Dixco, but a Delco unit that required the big hole. The GM harness is still in the car and the hood shows evidence of the big hole for the Delco unit. Don seemed to think the hole pattern was for the taller 1967 style, not the later style. Given that the car was ordered with all the performance options and several other items, but not U14 (tach, gauges), it is reasonable to assume that the person who ordered the car, whether it be the first owner or the dealer, planned on installing the hood tach immediately upon receiving the car at the dealer. If I can be convinced that this was the case, I will reinstall it. (There is also evidence of another ‘day one’ dealer mod to this car concerning the sound system). I don’t know if someone threw an old 1967 tach on the hood in the early seventies. The car was repainted in the early 80s and that’s when the hole was patched. Supposedly, the owner who had the car painted in the early 1980s still has the tach. I am writing him a letter. Besides the Cherokee Camaro, which has a tach that is probably custom silk screened “Chevrolet”, I have only seen Pontiac and Buick labeled hood tachs. I’ve also seen AC labeled ones. I’ve seen Chevy some tuner cars with the Pontiac tach. I wonder what version is the most likely for a Chevy dealer to install in 1967?

While I’m sure this 2-bolt main hydraulic lifter car is not a tuner car, I am interested in finding out more about some of the more common dealers that thrived on selling GMs line of bolt-on accessories. Has anyone ever seen a dealer installed hood tach on a Chevy outside of the tuner-car world? Could this car be from a dealer that liked to put these on several of their cars? I’m hoping I can trace some early owners and find some more docs, but for now I must speculate. The earliest known location of the car was it’s sale at Carlisle in 1979. It might be from the Pennsylvania, New York area. I would like to find out if there is any evidence that the tach was put on the car at the dealer and would love to luck out and find out what dealer that was (regardless of the tach situation). Tachs and dealers. Thoughts everyone?
