There's a ying and a yang to everything. I'm guessing those of you who have taken a fee have also benefitted greatly in finding other cars that were found as a result of your assisted research. Case in point, while helping someone find their old GTO Judge I stumbled upon a pasture full of GTO's. If it wasn't for this person giving me the information that they had on the Judge they were searching for I would have never been privy to this field of cars. I just so happened to be the benefactor of taking the individuals research to it's end conclusion. It happens all the time and I've discussed this with many other automotive archaeologists. To me this type of reward is FAR greater than charging someone $1,000.
I view charging someone and also benefitting from finding other cars or stashes of parts a double standard. Unless of course you split the profits from any purchases with the person who supplied you with the information.
Now authenticating a car is a completely different conversation and doesn't apply to the question at hand....
