There were many 1965 Impalas ordered and purchased for the L-78 396/425 engine only. The motor was pulled and a 327 installed and the car sold because the motors were not available through GM parts and that was the only way to acquire a 396 &quot;semi hemi&quot; for your race car in 1965. I am sure most of these did not require a huge out lay of cash after the engine swap and after selling the original car. A friend of mine did that to a 65 Impala SS and swapped the 396/425 motor into a Henry J.
