Don't forget 429's were the std motor in 68-73 Thunderbird so fairly common really.
Whether 428 or 429, didn't all <span style="text-decoration: underline">Super</span> CJ's have remote oil coolers so an oil filter on the engine a good indicator it's not a SCJ?
I'm no Ford guy either but learned the basics working at the boneyard back in the day, especially that you don't want to get stuck w/ a 351/400 M-motor so best confirm all you can before $ spent!
Count the valve cover bolts also grab any casting/stamping info you can including engine tag at front also carb and distrib #'s.
Also look carefully at the crank output end and pilot bushing or a deep provision for one as lack of and large hole for torque converter hub indicates auto etc.
