WARWICK, R.I. - Leo A. "Bucky" Fontaine Jr., 60, of Royal Avenue, Warwick, a former longtime North Attleboro resident, died on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence from injuries suffered when he and his wife were struck by a vehicle while riding their motorcycle on Allen Avenue in Providence on Aug. 31, 2008. He was the husband of Karolyn A. (Gariepy) Fontaine, to whom he was married on Feb. 19, 1966 and who is recovering from the injuries she suffered in the accident.
Born in Pawtucket on Aug. 14, 1948, he was the son of Leo A. "Bucky" Fontaine Sr. and Beatrice (Oliviera) Fontaine, both of North Attleboro. He was raised and educated in North Attleboro, where he attended St. Mary's School and was a 1966 graduate of North Attleboro High School.
He was employed for a short time at Texas Instruments in Attleboro in 1966 and later joined his father's business, Bucky's Appliances, in Central Falls, R.I. For the last 42 years, he was the owner and operator of the family-run business.
Mr. Fontaine moved to Warwick four years ago after having been a lifelong North Attleboro resident.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in North Attleboro.
Mr. Fontaine enjoyed the peace and tranquility reflected in lighthouses.
His family was of the utmost importance to him and he treasured the time creating memories with them.
In earlier years he was active in the drag racing circuit along the East Coast. He enjoyed boating and time spent on the water and motorcycling.
In addition to his wife of 42 years and his parents, he leaves a daughter, Tammy L. St. Pierre and her husband Bob St. Pierre of South Thomaston, Maine; a son, Leo A. "Bucky" Fontaine III and his wife Dawn M. (Cahill) St. Pierre of North Attleboro; four grandchildren: Katie St. Pierre and Jacob St. Pierre, both of South Thomaston, Maine and Bradley Fontaine and Meghan Fontaine, both of North Attleboro; a sister, Linda L. Tomas of North Attleboro; and a brother, Robert A. Fontaine of North Attleboro.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, Sept. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at 508-695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Park Street, North Attleboro with the Rev. David Costa, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be private.
Children's room available during visitation.
Following Mass, family and friends will be welcomed to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name and honor to an organization started by the Fontaine family to assist children battling cancer - the Peanut Butter & Jelly Foundation, by making a donation at any branch of Citizen's Bank.
