Little by little a story is emerging from a guy that knew one of the long-time owners of this car, "Cowboy".
Here is one of the tidbits he recently told me.

He cut the hood and had a dual snorkel air cleaner on it with hoses running down to the headlights. He used to call it the robot from the show lost in space because when it was running the motor would shake and it looked like when the robot would say "Danger, Danger" he used to joke and say that the car was telling all of us other racers danger was coming.
