Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
So.....After getting all the seats dis-assembled......It ended up that the seat back frames were the only things that could salavaged from the first seat.......the second seat had the complete power track assy and wire harness assy that was useable........the third strato bench seat (out of a 4 door) was the Gold mine for the rest of the parts........But....I had to adapt the moveable seat backs on to the non moveable 4 door frame.....I kept the rusted out original so I could compare the two and see the differences.....It ended up that there were two brackets welded on to the 4 door frame to keep the seat backs locked in position that were easy to cut off....and the tapped hole I needed for the seat stop bumper was already there.....simple fix......Then I just had to cut a little clearance in the frame for the Pivot links as the solid mounts were slightly different......
The Latch mechanisms were in need of some TLC out of the first seat....they were Rusted solid.....had to take them apart and make some new pins and find new springs.....(Thanks McMaster-Carr)......
Got the seat backs installed....we have to take the seat springs from the solid backs and add them to the moveable ones....
Got the power seat switch mounted in the lower seat side trim........
Dave (I'm Rare) got me hooked up with a local upholsterer that really "Gets" it......The Strato bench started production in 67 and I'm putting it in the 66....so....no seat covers available.....But we ordered a set of covers and seat buns for 66 Bucket seats......the backs are the same.....and Mike (the Upholsterer) is going to build the bench seat bun out of the bucket buns and make the matching bench seat cover to suit.......
I know this is much to do about nothing, but......It seems I make everything as complicated as possible......LOL......When we are finished I just hope its worth the effort and is comfortable n those long drives.....LOL......the bench seat that's in it now even though it's got new a new bun....is like sitting on a worn out mattress......Pretty Impressed with Mike as he was showing me how to rebuild the stock seat springs for more support and comfort........More pic's to come as Mike gets into the seat......Again........Ken makes eveything complicated.....Just hope its worth the effort......
