Re: GM unveils small-block, LT1 6.2-liter V-8
We've put about 11K miles on our 2005 six speed C6 and can get just shy of 35 mpg (Imperial) which is about 29 US on straight highway running. We've run three consecutive tankfuls in the 34.4 - 34.9 range on highway runs with just a little town driving. A friend's '89 L98 automatic car can run no better than 26 mpg (Imperial). Driving style makes a big difference as does straight highway versus town and country, so the only fair comparison would be the same person, same gas and same route. I'd sure like to have an LS2 or LS3 with the six speed in an old Chevelle. The way these engines idle, no one would ever suspect anything. Why doesn't GM come out with a new COPO Chevelle? The 427 is already there. It could be done with Camaro underpinnings. They blew the opportunity with the Camaro building only a handful when they could have had a few thousand out on the road for everyone to see.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now.
