Default Re: Leaf Blowers as Superchargers!

I bet there is something to this. I dont think the leaf blowers are able to create a signifigant amount of positive pressure, they can just move a lot of air if there isnt much restriction, kind of like how an "asperator" on a Detroit Desiel that just pushes fresh air into the 2 stroke engine at low speeds can be spun faster and turned into a supercharger on 4 stroke engines. I figure that it because the impeller isnt moving fast enough, and is probably direct drive to the engine. If you stepped up the speed via a gear set it might actually make boost, even with just one. Of course the blower impeller would probably explode if your quadrupled the speed. Maybe a strong electic motor turning about 5000 rpm with a 1:20 gearset on it would really make some boost if you used a good steel housing/impeller setup.

This would be great power at the flick of a switch. An air intake tube between the blower and throttle body/carb with a Y in it that had a 1 way flapper that allowed air in when the blower wasnt running would make it work. Hmmmmm??
