M...when I bought the car it still had the original tank, but it was full of corrosion and junk from sitting for many years. The guy tried flushing it out, but it was never right. So, I installed a new tank, flushed out the fuel line and that did the trick. I kept the factory tank, it is in nice shape on the outside...probably could be restored and used at some point.
****there is a neat story about the gas tank.
When I went to see the car the owner told me of the fuel tank issues but said he had come up with a "temporary fix"...he had a 5 gallon can of race gas on the passenger side floor with a rubber hose out the vent window to the fuel pump [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif[/img]
So my first ride in the car out in Buffalo was with this guy sitting in the passenger seat holding the gas can, while I drove the car. I floored it on a side street in his neighborhood and the next thing I knew I was looking at the trunk lid as the car almost swapped ends...It was an animal!...that test drive sealed the deal.
