The Columbus Dispatch

An Obetz man was indicted on four felony counts earlier today after he tried to pass off one vintage car for another, higher-end model on eBay, according to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.

Bobby Patton, 58, of 2238 Bridlewood Blvd., attempted to sell a classic car that he restored to resemble a 1965 Chevy Chevelle Z16.

The car was really a 1965 Clevy Chevelle SS.

Patton was charged with one count each of tampering with records, possession of criminal tools, telecommunication fraud and attempted criminal simulation.

He faces a sentence of as long as eight years in prison.

The black book value of a Chevelle SS is approximately $28,000, according to prosecutors. The Z16 model is valued at about $155,000.

Patton listed the asking price for the doctored Chevelle at $100,000, according to the county.

The post was eventually pulled, prosecutors said, after the company received numerous calls questioning the vehicle's authenticity.

The ad included pictures of a cowl tag and the VIN plate, both of which appeared to be handmade. The car's original title also appeared to be altered, said Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said.

Patton's arraignment is scheduled for July 13 in Franklin County Common Pleas Court."
