The more I spend, the slower we go. Set the timing with a dial indicator today, had to install the flywheel without the key. Put the new belt on. Went to TnT.
We ran a 19+, a 20+ and another 20+. We only got three runs in. Engine runs rougher, clutch is no better. The second run was with the timing all the way retarded, third run had the timing all the way advanced. Higher rpm on the stand though, 6000+ when I pull the cable - goes nowhere at the line when there is a load.
Fun factor is diminishing for both of us. Lots of help from the other Jr guys, but nothing looks wrong. Not sure what to do next. Did a leak down and compression test, both appeared fine. If I can get 5500 to 6000 rpm on the warm up stand I thought the engine was good enough for 13-14's.
I have to come up with another plan.
Plan B:
Had this in the basement for 10+ years for a go cart project, (longer than 8 year old Benjamin!). Turns out its a Raptor engine - which is the standard for 12.90 cars!
Long story short, its on, it runs - nice (!), wide open idle was over 5,000 rpm ,and our impromptu street testing out front yielded a couple of nice launches!!! Benjamin is thrilled, I'm relieved - for the moment - and we are looking forward to the next oppotunity for TnT. Not to be skeptic, but I'm hoping for the best.
