Yea, we are reall looking forward to it. My friend Joel and I took the boys out yesterday afternoon to a private stretch of pavement and suited them up. We went through the drills, gave them some instruction and let them drive around a huge circle to get them used to the ride, noise, turning radius, brakes, etc.... Then we had them do some short 'blasts'! I set the throttle stop on Benjamin's car to half throttle (its an 8.90 engine!)and he still pulled the front wheels - he only weighs about 60 lbs. Then we had them do increasingly longer 'blasts' till the end when we had them run the whole 1/8 we marked off.
Typical race cars, both cars 'broke' right at the end. Ben's clutches came loose somehow when we lost a C-clip on one and the jam nuts on the other, and Joel's carb was spitting fuel out the bottom. Ben did the smart thing and when something didn't feel right - he shut it down, he reminded me later that he just saved us money by not ruining more parts!
I was really proud of him, he listened, absorbed, and executed - and says that he 'feels really weird inside, ya just get shoved back into the seat and then hold on - a bit nervous but its awesome!" A racer is born
