1969 396/325 HP automatic trans.
1970 396/350 HP cars irregardless of trans type.

Not real sure on what occurred prior to 69, I think that was a high horsepower/4speed trans combo and/or west coast thing for smog... I know I have seen 66 Chevelles 396/325 HP 4 speed west coast cars with it..

Not too sure after 1970 what was a requirement... I'm guessing it was getting pretty standard by this point..

The 1970 Chevy vehicles all received the new TCS (transmission controlled spark) feature...the low horse motors, regardless of tranny did not have smog (except for CA)...all high horse solid lifter engines (BB & SB) had the smog pump and plumbing. I'm pretty sure most of the 69 4 speed cars got the smog....and it sounds like the L-35's had it too, based on Benny's original car. I'm sure we will get more input on this...wilma
