For the uninitiated, that's because the Roadrunner came with the 383 (N code) or the 440-6 barrel (V code) or the Hemi (R code). Only the GTX and the Superbird came with the 440 4bbl (U code) in 1970.

Yes, all of the above is true but may confuse some here. The "U" code engine is the standard engine for a S-Bird but it was available optionally with both the six barrel and the Hemi as well.
