Not positive of the year, but Chevrolet Division was offering a Police Package Nova and wanted it promoted. Don Yenko and Jerry Thompson put together a Nova for an IMSA class and ran the car. I have a picture of it when it was dark red and believe it was later painted Black & White. They equipped it with a flashing light and siren. The idea was to have local police be part of the pit crew at the various tracks throughout the country for additional publicity. It would be interesting to ask Jerry Thompson about that car.

Bingo! I don't have any pictures of it when it was dark red, but here's a few I have showing the car in its police car/race configuration... Looks like it could be about '79.
