I believe those springs were dipped in black as I have used them many times . I used a commercial paint stripper to get most of it off . The blast cabinet took care of the rest .

Take them to any chrome plater and they can dip them and remove it with no problem..

Careful & slow.
Goal is to get the glue to soften and you might still have a ghost of residue but it should work.
