Sam, if you hit the NCRS Historic Document Link at the top of this page it states that "the GM official production date" is the date the car was produced. I hope this helps.

I just got the shipping data report for my 71 Z28. It gave me the production date of 05/05/1971 and the Zone code of 18 which I know is Des Moines, IA. The report also gave me the dealer...
