This just gets better and better! I've been trying for years to remember the magazine and issue this story was in. I thought it was Car Craft but I wasn't sure and I wasn't even sure of the year....

I was in high school at the time and happened to pick up that copy of Car Craft in the school library and that story has been locked in my memory ever since.
