70 chevelle hood insulation
Does anyone reproduce the correct hood insulation for a 70 chevelle SS.
And where can I get a new repro or NOS hood hinges for my 70 chevelle that are decent. I could not reuse my original as I tried to tighten them and it did not work. PJ |
Re: 70 chevelle hood insulation
You can buy the hinges directly from GM. I recently bought a pair, but they come painted black and you need to have them phosphated to make them "correct".

Re: 70 chevelle hood insulation
The hinges you can get from gm have the part number and that is not correct.

Re: 70 chevelle hood insulation
Hi Paul,
What are the part numbers that are stamped on hinges? My friend had several pairs of hinges phosphated to save money, and I believe I didn't get my originals back. Mine have part numbers on them and my hood will not stay open! I bring my own parts to have plated now, so I know I get my parts back! Lesson learned the hard way! Thanks! John |
Re: 70 chevelle hood insulation
The hinges seem to become weak when they are stripped and plated,I have plated a few sets and have had to put new springs on them and i know they were my originals as i engraved my initials in them.

I had the same problem with my 69, the hood springs came back weak and barely hold up the hood

Re: 70 chevelle hood insulation
For "driver" restorations you are better off using the Eastwoods Phosphate paint. It looks very close if you "dry spray" the last coat and lasts longer.
