69 factory Hurst shifter handle removal

Any advice on the best way to remove the round shifter handle on a factory 69 Camaro Hurst shifter. Thanks!

Tom, I use 2 pieces of hardened shim stock about .010 thick or similar. Try to slide them in between the handle and the metal insert. There is a little tab that needs to be released from a notch in the handle. Pull vigorously!!

If you have a couple of old sets of feeler gauges, they work great. Worked for me.

A piece of steel pallet banding works great.

Starter shims work pretty good too.
