Underhood and exhaust coatings

Looking for a good clear coat for underhood parts. Anyone find a particular brand that seems to last (not yellow or peel) better than others? I have used Krylon crystal clear in matte and gloss finish. I like it but, it doesn't seem to last very long. Turns kinda yellow after awhile.

I am also looking for a good header coating. How does the VHT hi temp paint hold up? I really think white headers would look good on my black primered 55 Chevy but, don't know of anything that lasts. Tried coated headers but, they only lasted 2 summers then just rusted like everything else. I have a new set of standard headers and am about to just wrap them and spray them with silicone sealer.
Thanks.

Re: Underhood and exhaust coatings

Back in the late '70s I used white VHT high heat paint on the non galvanized tailpipes on our GTO. I cleaned them very well and hung them vertically. After painting, and let dry, I gently blew a propane torch up each pipe. You can't get things so hot that the paint bubbles, just a slow bake. Two years of summer and winter driving and the pipes still looked good. If the product is as good today as it was back then, then I can see no problem with it. As far as ceramic coating goes, I'm not really sold on it. Same with powder coating. Either both are not as good as people think or there is a lot of shoddy work being done out there. Time will tell.

I would have them "reskined" via FLAME SPRAY aluminum coating.....then VHT paint with White!!!!!

One of the tricks I have found w/ VHT is applying really, really light multiple coats. Just mist it with each coat - do this 4 to 5 times. This helps with longevity. Did I mention light coats? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif
