How to ID a 12 bolt rear end?
Hi,
I have a 12 bolt rear end from a Chevelle or something similar that I am thinking I might want to part with. How do I identify it and figure out the date codes and stuff? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif Thanks, Joel |

As well as what this diagram shows, relay all the letters and numbers lightly stamped in the passenger side axle tube usually facing the floor board,or front end.
The casting date & CON1 locations have been found to interchange between those locations shown, and also at the 4 O'clock & 8 O'clock positions. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...lecastdate.gif [i]Drawing Courtesy of Camaro Research Group) |

The first thing I look for is the taper on the tube behind the flange. Chevy uses press in bearings. B O P tubes are straight. Bolt in axels.
