1988 IROC rear axle help

Just finished a resto on a 1988 IROC. Did some mods to the original engine and now find the gears in the rear axle are not up to snuff for the performance I want. I am told the car has a Dana rear axle w/ 2.73 gear ratio and parts for these units are hard to find. Anyone know if there is a 3.55 or 3.73 gear set for this rear axle? It is the original one and do not really want to swap for another axle.

You can get gears for the axle... but it won't hold up... we used to drag race them when they were new and ended up putting Strange 12 bolts or Currie 9" in them...
They are notoriously weak!

There were two different rear ends offered in the IROC's. The 9 bolt and the 10 bolt. The 9 bolt is the stronger of the two. If you plan on being in the 12's, 10 bolt will let go on you.
