ZL-1 Oil Pan

anybody know if Chevy ever made a special oil pan for the 69 ZL-1 Camaro engine. I know it was a 4 quart standard pan, but was their ever a special pan made the public didnt know about. Just curious.

Re: ZL-1 Oil Pan

Way back when I did one someone told me all factory-built ZL-1 engines had the windage tray which only fits the 5 quart pan. For the 69 Camaros Chevy cut the baffle out of the 4 quart pan.

I believe that topic was covered here about 2 years ago.
Search the archives. As I recall, one or two original ZL-1
owners mentioned having to "massage" the oil pan with a hammer
as well. It's really hard to believe that Chevrolet would
go to all that trouble ( for the ZL-1 ) and not make a special
oil pan like the one available for the L-88 Vette's.

Agree SS396,you would think they would make a pan like the L-88 to fit the camaros

Re: ZL-1 Oil Pan

Having done one of these and having no problem at all with the oil pan I have no idea what the issue is. We built our engine without the main-cap mounted windage tray and the standard 4 quart pan fit just fine. If you use the windage tray the baffle welded in the standard pan has to be removed. How difficult can it be to grind through a few spot-welds?
