QR coil spring tag question

My 1969 Impala SS has the original QR tags on the front springs. Can anyone help me decode what that code represents? It is an L72 car with a NOM "CE" 512 solid lifter block . Just wondered if these tags might further verify a true L72 as the car has no POP or build sheet.

Re: QR coil spring tag question

QR had multiple applications,nearly 17 just on the 1969 Passenger series alone.
Ranging from the docile base spring on the 15311 models,all the way up to the F-40/F-41 recommended on the L-72 Z-24 models.
Can you be more specific on your cars given options,and model number?

Remember last year when 'Tony Scuncio' confirmed his '69 Biscayne was an L72 car...I thought there was something to do w/ the coil tags being a unique #?https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif.

Here's the thread;

Re: QR coil spring tag question

Although L-72's got them,they were not L-72 specific.

Custom Coupe, 512 CE solid lifter engine, M21 w/VIN, correct 3.31 posi, single return fuel line, SS model w/ bucket seats and orig. Hurst shifter, front disc brakes, ps, pb, am, 8-track. What else is applicable?

Original owner (1969-2003) and the selling dealer gave sworn affadavits the car was an L72. The engine was removed in mid-70's due to gas prices and long gone.

Re: QR coil spring tag question

Tony's flicker pics are still alive and looking closer it appears it's the rear 'DW' sping tag he's mentioning as unique to the L72...Rick?.

Sounds like a cool piece Joe...no chance it's a Canadian built car?.

Re: QR coil spring tag question

The information I have only confirms that a BELAIR or BISCAYNE equipped with QR/DW springs is L72. In other words, the only QR/DW combination in the Belair/Biscayne spring charts is found with the 'L72' option. I am not sure if the QR/DW combo is used in other engine applications for Impala/Caprice. I'll dig up the information I have to see if it contains Impala/Caprice application info.

Just FYI, the new owner of my old Biscayne has been able to trace back the ownership of the car and hopefully it will yield even better documentation of its history. I am glad it went to a great home!

The VIN starts: 164479Jxxxxxx so it is not Canadian, could not be that lucky...
