1964 Chevy II decoding

1 Attachment(s)
Is it possible to see on numbers that this is a 4-speed V8-car from the factory ?

VIN is: 40447 N 1705XX

Unfortunately, no. 1964 was the first year that the Nova SS became a specific model and not an option package. All 1964 Nova SS's were 0447, whether V/8 or six cylinder. Check for a '2L' code on the cowl tag indicating a 4 speed car, which would also have meant it was a V/8.

Re: 1964 Chevy II decoding

So the W2L3C on the cowltag says itīs a 4-speed car ? And the 4-speed was only available behind a V8 ? Did I get that right ?

What does W and 3C mean then ?

Thanks

The attached pictures shows the tag. It shows the 4 speed code for of 2L. The car was a factory V8 4 speed.

Anders, looks like you've got yourself a 1964 Nova SS V/8 with a 4 speed. The only V/8 in 64 was the 283CID/195HP. The 283CID/220HP was available late in the year. Just for info, the 1964 SS's with 4 speeds had bucket seats, but there was no console.

Hey Anders,

Is that your car?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gifVery nicely optioned. I'd like to see more pics if possible and what original parts remain. I'd like to break it down further:

Body Build: 01E (January 5th week)
64-447 NW 2943: '64 2-door Sport Coupe (SS) / Norwood, Ohio / Body sequence #
Trim 713: Black Bucket Seat Interior
Paint 900: Black (Solid) -This is a biggie. I don't believe there were many black cars.
ACC W2L3C: As described above (Tinted Windshield, 4-Spd & Padded Dash)
E: Black painted interior sheet metal (dash, windshield pillars, top and bottom of doors...)

Yes, the 2L is 4-spd and V-8 only. As a note on the option de-code listed: 2P is believed to be the 1st Comfort & Convenience package and not PB Radio. Take a look here:
http://www.corvairkid.com/65-67rpocode.htm a bunch of people worked on this data.

As mentioned, this car should not have a center console even though the assembly manual shows one with a 4-spd shift plate. -Apparently it didn't happen. Does it have the original '721 block/engine and trans? What about the original shifter and floor shift hump? '64 4-spd cars are bit different than '65+. Do you have the rear diff. codes?

Re: 1964 Chevy II decoding

Thank you guys for your answers. You are great ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

No itīs not my car. Lenny who owns it now bought the front sheetmetal a few year ago when the former owner was going to build a racecar out of it. That guy put a rollcage in it but didnīt cut it up. When he lost interest in it recently, and wanted to sell it, Lenny happened to see the ad and bought it right away. He new it had a good body with little rust (and the floor shift hump is all there) so he didnīt hesitate. After learning that it was sold new in his hometown Karlskrona and that it was originally a 4-speed V8 car, he decided to start restoring it back to stock. Lenny wanted to make sure that the rumours about it being a V8 car was true, and now he knows for sure.
He has found a -67 Chevy II ī194 block and most of the parts he need. It will not be a totally numbers correct restoration, but he wants it to at least look correct. Lenny is still looking for 1964 bucket seats. He currently has buckets from a -65 but knows they are different.

The reason why he contacted me is because my name is Anders ! Well sometime in the past some other Anders (probably my friend Anders Forsberg, Nova67SS)helped a previous owner with some information about the car. So the name Anders was mentioned in some paper that came with it, and Lenny wanted to know if that was me.

Thatīs me to the left in front of my SS and Anders Forsberg is to the right. He continued the work with the Nova Registry that Christer Alseryd in Skellefteå had started. The picture was taken probably twenty years ago !

Thanks

Re: 1964 Chevy II decoding

That's cool that it was sold new in his hometown. Hopefully he got some trim with it. That'll be a nice car when done. Tell him we wish him luck and post any other pics of it when possible. Does he have the carpet rubber shift-hole trim piece? The repros are nice but I'm not sure what's left (brown & black maybe) or if they're going to make more.
