Help with COPO

Hi All,
Looking for some help with a COPO designation on a build sheet. The car is not a 69 Camaro https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif but a rare car from what I can determine and is in great original shape, numbers matching.
1973 LS4 Malibu
Please review the folloing build sheet and let me know your thoughts on the COPO on the build sheet and what it may mean.
73 Chevelle Malibu Buildsheet

Thanks,
GearheadMex

Re: Help with COPO

The COPO designation on your sheet seems to only indicate special paint. The request for a special color outside of the regular colors for the car was made thru a Central Office Production Order. Not sure if that adds much to the value of the car, if any.

Darren - that was my 1st impression too. Until I saw the 19/19 on the cowl tag which suggests that the color may have been available in the regular line up. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

As mokingbird states color is a standard black color available for this year. I think the value of the car is in its rarity, 454 in a malibu, most people that went for the BB added the SS package. Just trying to figure out what the code may mean. One person on a chevelle board suggested it may have been a special order for an executive or other person. I do have the original owners name, so I may try to see if I can locate him and inquire.
Thanks,
GearheadMex

Check in with Jim Mattison of Pontiac Historical Society. One of the fellow here will provide contact info if you can not find it in a web search. He may know of this COPO designation as he worked at GM back then and is a fountain of information (with a great attitude).

Re: Help with COPO

It has no bearing on the paint color for this particular Malibu.
It was a notation included on a few vehicles in 1973,as some of it's options raised an internal flag that possibly this vehicle MAY BE Police/Taxi or used in the service industry, and it then MIGHT require a special color paint scheme.
It being A 454 BUT not being a Super Sport, fit that mold.
Notice they did not continue it with a Bypass code,F&SO # or even follow it up with ZP3.It's just a provisional alert if you will, but it went no further as this Malibu stayed an RPO.

Re: Help with COPO

With the COPO next to paint it makes me think it was paint related. Perhaps stripes of some sort?

Re: Help with COPO

Digging up this old topic again. I have done some more investigation and I have found some 73s were able to have the Landau roof as a dealer installed option and I have heard that there were some from the factory. As this is a later build does anyone think the COPO could refer to it getting a Landau roof at the factory. If this is possible, of course I would leave the roof on, but if someone added it later then I will put it back to original.

Any help is appreciatted.
Paul

Re: Help with COPO

Without a COPO #, it's not a COPO. I agree with Rick: probably neither, since there's no F&SO # either
