Cleaning Aluminum Wheels
I have a set of aluminum wheels on my F250. They are black with dirt and brake dust. I remember reading some where that when the wheels are really bad to clean them with WD-40 and steel wool before polishing. Has anyone ever heard/done this before? Any ideas for cleaning before polishing?
Thanks in advance, Scott |

Factory wheels are usually clearcoated. Are yours ?

No, they are bare aluminum, I think Eagle Alloy wheels

Re: Cleaning Aluminum Wheels
I would try some automotive clay. Get a good water/soap lube and clay the wheels down before polishing. I have seen good results with proper preparation before polishing. Wolfgang makes a really good product for aluminum polishing. go to www.autogeek.net for cleaning needs.

I like 'Simple Green'. If they're really dirty, you might have to go to a engine degreaser.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the simple green first then use the clay bar and see how it goes.
