Spreadbores never performed well for me. It was an alternative back in the old days but the Q-jet far surpasses it in my opinion. Q-jets can sit for years and start up pretty much and never leak. They also have enough power to put some Super Stockers well into the 9's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Holley question

Back in high school I knew a guy who messed around with the "Quadrapukes" as we jokingly called them. But all jokes aside, he could really fine tune those things to where there were very responsive and I think ran just as good if not better than a Holley. But I do think that a Holley that is tuned right is an excellent carb. I was having problems with the vacuum secondaries not opening on my Holley carb. A friend of mine is good with tuning Holleys. He made up a real nifty vacuum secondary diaphram/piece that eliminated the check ball. He installed a screw to replace the check ball. So all you have to do is either turn the screw in clockwise to delay the opening of the secondaries or back the screw out counterclockwise to advance the opening. We bench tested it first with a vacuum gauge and set it up to advance/open rather quickly. We also installed the weakest spring inside the diaphram. What a HUGE difference this made in the way the car ran. It is very easy to adjust also. I just remove the air cleaner and adjust this screw to whatever setting I want. You will know if it is too far advanced because the car will fall on its face if the secondaries are opening too soon when you stomp on her... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

My Grandfather was a wizard with most carburetors.
He used to say.."Holley makes a damn good carb.,but don't you ever underestimate a properly tuned Quadrajunk,or else you'll remember it".

Holleys I like the best but the Q-jet performs well also. They run in the mid 9's on some of the Super Stock cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif
