Another L78 CAM question

I have read the other threads about L78 CAMs and understand that the Crane/GM Grind Number: 143 2A is the recomended "new" cam.

Is it worth using a NOS CAM and lifters? I have one that I got when I purchased a car. Are there any advantages to using the NOS CAM over the new Crane/GM one?

If I were to buy the Crane Cam and sell the NOS CAM and lifters what would they be worth?

Thanks,

Re: Another L78 CAM question

Sell the NOS one and put a new one in your motor.
I would think you'd come out way ahead $$$ wise and the new cam would work better and last longer.

Thanks Wheelhop.

I am surprised nobody else has an opinion on the NOS vs. Crane/GM CAM.

My $.02 on the matter...

Unless you're dead-set on having everything inside your engine 100% original GM, I would either sell or shelve the GM cam & lifters and go with the current Crane replacement along with a set of EDM lifters as insurance against a wiped cam. I've used EDM's in several recent builds and have experienced no failures, nor have I experienced any of the reported oil pressure issues others have reportedly experienced.

Re: Another L78 CAM question

Listen to Eric...shelve the original piece, and get a Crane/GM piece...the original cam would be fine, but waste a cool original, wear item part?!

Also, Comp offers a solid lifter with an extra oiling orifice in the face of the lifter...

Thanks Eric and Rob!

That is what I'll do.
