'69 ZL-1 question

I assume that all '69 ZL-1's had the radio delete option.
Did all out race cars need, or want a radio? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Is that accurate. Also, did these ZL-1's also have a heater
delete option?

I honestly never looked at these issues when reviewing a
real ZL-1. You know - https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif looking at that aluminum ICON.

Re: '69 ZL-1 question

-------Gibb didnt order his with many options nor did other dealers generally because of the heavy tab for that chunk of aluminum, but a ZL1 could have been ordered with just about any Camaro option with the exception of A.C. There is a well known RS ZL1 out there with many other options as well. Im sure there are a few other options not available with ZL1 but I have had just enough beer that I cant think of any more at the moment.
-------1969 Camaros as well as all GM vehicles ordered for sale within US borders had to have heaters or at least thats the way I understand it. Gov mandated that all US delivered cars had to have defrosters in 1969 and therefore they got defrosters as well as heaters as it was all one unit.........Bill S

Re: '69 ZL-1 question

When I was involved with the restoration of a Gibb ZL-1 many years ago the owner was able to meet with Fred and asked him that same question. He had tried to get them built with heater delete [C48]; not possible due to the new regs. The only 69 I have ever seen with C48 was a Z/28-RS sold new in Hawaii. The car was here in WI.

As for the other 19 non-Gibb ZL-1s some factory paperwork exists showing they did have a few options:

# 3-style trim, radio 9737
#51-tinted glass, spoilers, wood wheel, rallys, style trim
#54-radio, custom interior, gauges, console
#55-RS, gauges, console, vinyl roof
#57-spoilers, radio
#59-chambered exhaust, radio, style trim
#64-tinted glass, spoilers, wood wheel, radio, VE3 bumper, rallys
#65-9737
#68-DX1, console, spoilers, N44 steering, Polyglas tires, gauges, radio, VE3 bumper, rally wheels, RS, sp int grp. At $7919.85 may have been the most expensive 1969 Chevrolet passenger car.

Re: '69 ZL-1 question

My car is equipped with an AM radio. Being an Indian River car, I tend to think Bob Dance favored certain options such as the Endura and Rosewood steering wheel, and (sunny Florida) tinted windows. My CS Indian River COPO is similarly equipped. I will try to post a shot of the AM Radio on the window sticker of the ZL-1 if I get a chance. Steve #64

I think #54 was over 8 grand I heard, and if not the highest, tied for highest optioned car.
Beyond the options you list, It also had a vinyl top, spoilers, endura bumper, deluxe ivory hounstooth interior, white letter tires, automatic, which was more pricey than 4 spd, hd battery

Here's a recently updated link to CRG's knowledge and understanding of the ZL1's. Car #54 is mentioned and some other notables are brought to light as well~

Re: '69 ZL-1 question

Maybe-depends on how much shipping was to Canada.

The May '94 COPO Connection book I have does list the additional options for #54 but a radio was not among them. Since Cunneen wrote the book and his BIL owns #54 I assume they know how it was equipped. Adding it up without shipping comes to $7833.85.
