Woodward cruise
Has anyone been to Woodward Dream Cruise before and is it worth the drive to see it?

Re: Woodward cruise
--------The Woodward cruise is literally a cultural abnormality! You should enjoy it if you have any amount of gear-head in you at all. With that said it is very crowded on Saturday (the main day). I havent gone in a couple of years on Saturday, but you should "once". As far as getting around, Thursday or Friday is a better choice for me at least. Cops are actually fairly good all thru the week but tend to get tight jaws on Saturday when somewhat minor infractions occur. They are a bit more forgiving during the week. Not that you would, but the worst thing you can do during that week is cop an attitude with them. Hope Im not putting you off at all because it really is a lot of fun, and the cars and sights in general will definetly give you sensory overload!!!!!.........Bill s

Re: Woodward cruise
Go at least once in your life. It's pretty crazy. It has to be the world's largest car show...period. Something like 25,000+ cars and 1.5 million people. I've gone 7 years so far. It gets a little frustrating because the city lets busses still run down Woodward and looky-loos pile into mini-vans and plug up the streets. Most of the cars to check out are parked along the streets. It's almost impossible to see everything. It's cool to see the big 3 concept cars come out of hiding, old and new. Some of my local friends say that the weeks prior to the cruise are actually better, because you can cruise.

Re: Woodward cruise
Here is my take. I attended for several days in 2005. Most of the nice cars DONT CRUISE. Not being from the area, I cant quote all the cross streets and towns that Woodward Ave travels through. There are many many small car shows along the route, staged in (closed) business parking lots or on misc city side streets. Yes I saw a lot by walking alot, but the number of quality cars actually driving/crusing Woodward were minimal........

Re: Woodward cruise
If your a car person you will LOVE IT!! It is quite an experience and VERY LARGE, MANY CITIES LONG!! Awesome experience!! Highly recommend going at least one time!! You will see musclecars you have never seen before. The year I went I saw a grouping of real, Hemi Dart racecars all parked together.. Someone told me that this year they were trying to organize car makes to particular cities, for example all of the Pontiacs in Royal Oak, all Fords in one place, etc... Don't know if this is true or not however..

Re: Woodward cruise
Ditto to all that has been said.....Go once, you will never forget it. It is total car overload.
You can also jump on a City Bus at differant places along the Cruise route for no charge, if your not driving. They run back and forth all day. Alot of Clubs and Buisness's along the way save parking spots, it is great if you should know anyone who does this. Mike |

Re: Woodward cruise
If you are expecting to see show cars cruising for get it. This is THE place for those that actually drive their cars. In '98 we drove our L78 Chevelle, along with a group of friends, down to the Woodward show. Back then, the streets were plugged by Saturday noon. You could walk faster. Going again, I'd be there Wednesday throught Friday and leave. You can actually cruise on these days. There are a lot of nice cars and displays to see, and everyone should do the trip at least once.
