What can Pypes do for you?

I've received numerous PM's about my escapade at GIR last Friday, so here's the scoop.

My previous best run was in 2005, which was:

2.22 in the 60'
14.25 ET
98.69 MPH

This year I came with a new exhaust system installed, but didn't change anything else. I kept the same engine tune, never even looked at the timing, curve, or jetting. I used the same wheels/tires, same manifolds/smog, same springs/clamps, etc... I did not change my driving style, no sidestepping /stabbing the clutch, or flatshifting. I did remove my tach this year, I shifted by 'feel'. So, the only change was the Pypes = 2.5" mandrel bent, X pipe, sans resonators, crossflow muffler in the stock location and tailpipes exiting in the stock location.

The first run off the trailer on Friday was the best, air was decent as was the traction. The car went:

2.10 in the 60'
13.50 ET
104.11 MPH

That's an improvement of over 7 tenths and 5 mph!! I like Pypes https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif There is more in there if I could drive https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Mel Bogus wrote 'GO FAST, STAY SAFE' on my air cleaner - that couldn't hurt either https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

That Tach is just window dressing anyway.
I am Reeeeally impressed with your progress,by just this one addition.
A good second quicker w/nearly 10 MPH added.
Here are some of your other stock exhaust ET's I recorded at Gateway Intl. in 2004.
14.56 @97.06MPH
14.53 @96.26MPH
14.71 @96.04MPH

Yep! The seat of the pants feel is impressive, 3rd gear is a total rip https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif The hard part is keeping the tires under it, whether it's on the street or the strip.

I don't plan to make any additional changes, just the exhaust (sorry Sammy!). In fact, I'm going to replace my original rear leaf springs with the concourse versions that the SCW uses for their restorations. It's tempting to use the super stock springs, but.... like Atlas wheels - can't do it!

Your car looks better to me w/the stock Magnum 500 rims anyways.

Thanks!!

Quite frankly, you couldn't wipe the smile off my face on Friday - I was hoping for 13.9x's, but a 13.50 almost made me put the car away while I was on top! I wheel-hopped a few more 13.8x's at 103+MPH, but I didn't care - that 13.50 made my year https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Where's that pesky Franky at?

I can attest to that! We had just arrived at the track when Marlin pulled back to his trailer. Tommy K and I walked over to ask how he ran and he immediately grabbed the time slip and showed us. He was like a kid on Christmas morning.
Congrats M! Well deserved. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

(However, after seeing what that mouse-motor did, ...........I left my rat in the trailer! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif)

It's a thought. All this 'Day 2' talk has the wheels churnin though. I've been spotted digging in the far, dark corners of the garage. It's kinda scary back there........ but in a good way. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
