Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
Did anyone see this car in the car corral?
POP indicated the car was sold new to a Canonsburg resident. Pretty early car as the cowl indicated November 1968. Many people who know a lot more about these cars found many items that were correct. Low miles with a very solid body. I am new to the Camaro market and I am looking for anyone's comments concerning this car. Did you see it and what light can you shed on it? Thank you in advance. Re: Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
Obviously not a COPO due to the date of production or did you see the car and find other things that indicated otherwise?
I have read several times that Yenko was in talks with Chevrolet in 1968 to have the factory install the 427. It was further stated that there may, in fact, have been some 1968 Yenko Camaros that had the 427 installed at the factory. Has this claim ever been proven? Are there some 68 cars that have documentation proving the engine was installed at the factory? Any information would be appreciated. |
Re: Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
Yenko ordered the first batch of '69 COPO cars in late '68, so he was indeed discussing the program during '68.
To date there are no documented examples of a COPO installed 427 in a '68. |
Re: Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
Too early yes but if the mentioned POP is genuine, what engine suffix and rear was noted?.
As a mater of interest, what was the build on Yenko's '69 Olympic gold 'prototype'...and what engine was it originally before transplant?. Rick, you're not far from me...I think I met you at Tim Banning's once?. Was it you that had and do you still have a factory Hemi four door car?. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

It was a Nov of 68 with X codes and D80. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif The first known 427 camaro copos are the ZL1's. The first of which shipped last week of Dec of 68. Marlin I believe was referring to iron headed 427 copos which didn't ship until 69. |

What Paceme is indicating is since X-Codes began around the second week of Dec and D80 later yet, a Nov. '68 tag w/ these has been altered or is a repop.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |

As a mater of interest, what was the build on Yenko's '69 Olympic gold 'prototype'...and what engine was it originally before transplant? [/ QUOTE ] The gold car was a regular COPO 9561/9737 with factory installed iron block L72 same as all the rest of Yenko's Camaros in '69...it was just one of the first 50 he ordered which were built on an X66 platform rather than an X44 at the factory. This included the black tail light panel and rockers sills, as well as the chrome rear quarter "gills" like a big block SS would have been built. The gold car is referred to as the "prototype" as it was one of the first received by Yenko and subsequently striped/emblemed...and it was done in an odd configuration with the Yenko crests above the Camaro scripts on the fenders rather than below...and it also had the 427s ahead of the marker light rather than on the cowl hood sides. Yenko seemed to adopt a more consistent style with future cars. The gold car was also featured in the July '69 Super Stock & Drag Illustrated road test, which has etched the car into a lot of minds permanently. |
Re: Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
Yep, I was referring to the iron version only!

Re: Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
So was the gold "prototype" considered to be the #1 Yenko?
