 Watch Speed Channel tonight!

At 9:30PM their doing a show on engines from the era. I'm sure it will include the Hemi and L88. I believe they will be doing some dynoing! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

I think the only stock motor was the 409. 837 HP out of the Hemi???!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif My stock (down to the factory cam) 70 hemi put out 394 at the rear wheels on a chassis dyno. What's that about 450 at the flywheel?

The Ford 427 had around 600 hp? Even though they said they were stock I think they were all built up beyond stock specs. Those numbers all seemed high. That Hemi motor would be excellent for racing in the FAST class.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was the Ford 427 used last night a regular production motor offered in their cars? As far as the Hemi. I expected 500hp to 525hp for a blue printed street machine. The intake and carbs alone were far from stock. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I just knew that show was going to be like that. Had a bad feeling. I'm really not impressed with their shows. I think a "Supercar Registry Reality TV Hour" would be a way better and actually accurate car TV show. I missed the first 10-15 minutes but I figured the 409 and the 421 were stock. -depending which 421 that was, I didn't hear. I heard the Ford 427 HP number and thought "Wow! they ran a Cammer, a SOHC 427" ... Well, they didn't... and that engine plus the HEMI wasn't close to factory. What was the deal with the "L-88" and only running it to 6400 RPM? What was in that thing? They were built to turn. By the way, they were rated at 430HP( https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif).

Those hp numbers are for people who beleive in Santa.
back in the day when stock motors ran on the street there is noway a stock 426 hemi would beat a l88 no way As a matter of fact a 1967 Camaro z28 302 with 546 gear from the factory 4 speed with slicks ran a 1260s consistantly at the track and would beat the hemy on the street as regular as exlax. PJ [/ QUOTE ] I believe you would find a blue-printed street hemi would produce similiar power to the L88. That's what I was hoping to get out of the show. Also remember the street hemi was fitted into cars mostly in the 3800lb range. Not 3300lb like the vette. I think on the "Pure Stock" web-site, if that's what its called. They have some dyno #'s. May want to check and see what they report. Atleast the comparisons are fair. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I really don't see the comparison with the Z. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif Patrick |
